Substitute Information
In order to work as a classroom substitute teacher in Goshen County, a Wyoming Substitute permit or Wyoming standard teaching certificate is required. To qualify for a substitute permit, individuals must have 60 or more credits on a college transcript. If you do not have 60 credits, an alternative route is to complete the 3 credit "Effective Substitute Teaching" course that may be offered through Eastern Wyoming College.

- Permits are good for a 5-year period. To renew you must have 5 new transcript credits.

How to Apply for PTSB Certification
Information and how to apply for a Wyoming substitute permit can be found on the Professional Teaching Standards Board website at https://wyomingptsb.com. Applicants will need to submit official transcripts, fingerprinting cards, the application form, and the $100.00 fee. The US Constitution test and the Wyoming Constitution test can be proctored online or at the Central Administration Office if the courses are not on transcript.
How to Become A Classified Substitute
Individuals who would are interested in subbing in a classified position (para, custodian, cook, secretary/clerk) must complete an online application in order to be considered.
- To begin a new application, choose a job from the available listings below. You will be asked to create an account.
- Once you have an account, you can log in anytime and your application information can be updated. After your information is complete, you will receive a confirmation number, and your information will be saved allowing you to return at any time to submit additional applications.
- Applicants for bus driving or sub bus driving must meet with the Transportation Supervisor at the bus garage prior to submitting fingerprints. This will be to determine eligibility for a Wyoming CDL license.
- Please bring a money order or cashiers check for $39.00 payable to DCI (personal checks are not accepted by DCI) to be sent with your fingerprinting cards.
- Once the background check is received by the district (3-6 weeks), you will be contacted by the Payroll Office to complete paperwork.
- After you have worked 40 hours in the district, the cost of the background check will be reimbursed back to you.
GCSD requires the successful completion of a pre-employment physical skill ability screening.
- Positions that require this screening are: substitute bus drivers
- An individual who is recommended for hire will be contacted by the Business Office to schedule this screening after the district receives a clear background check.
- Screenings may be scheduled and completed through the Central Office.
Current Substitute Resources
Substitute RATES FOR 2023/2024 SCHOOL YEAR
Substitute Teacher:
- All certified subs will be paid at a daily rate of $150.00, half day $75.00
- Each new school year, after 60 days of subbing, pay will increase to $170 per day for the remainder of the year. It will then re-set the following year, with increasing again once 60 days is met.
- Cook or Accompanist - $16.20/hour
- Clerk (Office, Library, Nurse) or Regular Education Paraprofessional -$16.58/hour
- Special Education Paraprofessional - $16.97/hour
- Custodian - $17.79/hour
- Secretary - $19.13/hour
- Bus Driver/Activity Driver - $24.09
- Each new school year, after 60 days of subbing, pay will increase by $.25 per hour for the remainder of the year. It will then re-set the following year, with increasing again once 60 days is met.
